New Year New You!

Happy 2015!
A lot of us spend the first few days of the New Year thinking about what we want to change. Making resolutions is commonplace in our society and it is a great way to make a fresh start; as long as you follow a few guidelines. Here are a few that I think will help you tweak your intentions!

*  Think about the big picture and then work backwards.
If you want to lose 10 pounds that's the big picture; but how are you going to get there? Choose smaller active goals to work towards getting there such as walking 3 days a week or starting a food journal. Choose one small goal at a time.

* Don't bite off more than you can chew!
Stick to one goal at a time. If you want to lose weight, quit smoking, and carve out more "me" time, just choose ONE of these to start your strategy off in the right direction. Trying to do too much too soon is a recipe for disaster.

*  Reward yourself for any and all small changes that you make.
Continue to pat yourself on the back and tell yourself "Well done!" for the changes that you are making; whether it is losing half a pound or choosing lite dressing on your salad. Positive self-talk is one of the cornerstones of any behavior change, and it will help push you along when the going gets tough!

Good luck and Happy New Year!
